‘No Islamic State fighter in FATA; army chasing Taliban, Lashkar affiliates’

PESHAWAR – Pakistan Army’s Sector Commander Brigadier Wajid Qayyum Paracha on Monday rejected rumours about the presence of the Islamic State fighters in the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas, saying the army would continue war against terrorism in the region to clean the areas from terrorists.

Speaking as chief guest at the passing out parade of the Khyber Rifles held in Khyber Agency, Brigadier Paracha said that the army was capable to defend Pakistan’s boundaries. He also said that the mission of the security forces was to provide foolproof security to the people of all areas including the tribal areas.

He said that peace has been restored in Tirah valley and Bara areas at the cost of a large number of civil and military casualties rendered for the sake of the motherland. He said that they were chasing some of the remaining Taliban and Lashkar affiliates in the hilly border with Afghanistan.

He said that all of the militant hideouts and other sanctuaries were destroyed while hundreds of other fighters were killed during the military operation. Appreciating the outstanding services by the paramilitary troops, he said that the Khyber Rifles had played a tremendous role in wars fought against militants in the tribal region. He said that they feel proud on the soldiers imparting services in the Khyber Rifles.

– Local culture, Pashtoon tradition –

The sector commander said they would not ignore those soldiers and officers of the security forces who sacrificed lives for the sake of Pakistan. He said that they were providing social and economic support to the martyred families. He urged the newly recruits that they should respect the local culture and Pashtoon tradition while conducting military actions in the area.

Earlier, the brigadier took oath from the newly 250 recruits after completing a six-month physical training in Landikotal army garrison. Khyber Agency’s Political Agent Sayed Shahab Ali Shah, Khyber Rifles Commandant Colonel Tariq Hafeez, Assistant Political Agent of Landikotal Nasir Khan, parents of the recruits, students, local elders and other civil and military officials also witnessed the ceremony.
